Remplie de zèle missionnaire, la jeune enseignante Madeleine arrive à 25 ans à Ste-Ursule, Sion, et complète sa formation pour de futurs engagements : 20 ans à l’école normale des  filles, 20 ans en Côte d’Ivoire, 10 ans à Bon-Accueil. Après ces périodes intenses d’activités, vient l’épreuve de l’âge et des infirmités.

Mais Sœur Jean-Marie trouve encore mille moyens de faire plaisir, de rendre service.

Elle garde son esprit vif et son franc-parler jusqu’au dernier jour de son pèlerinage vers Dieu en qui repose sa foi profonde.

C’est sans façon qu’elle rejoint le cortège des saints, avec son regard malicieux inondé de lumière.
